Smoked Fish on a banana leaf
Most of the Nonvegetarian peoples eat fish. Specially Bengali people are famous around the world because of their habit of fish ratting. They can make different dishes by fish. One of them is "Smoked fish on a banana leaf". This dish inspired by the old cooking technique.
This dish can be prepared only by small fishes. This whole dish cook on a slow cooking technique.

"Smoked fish on a banana leaf" is the kind of dish which is one of the easiest making dishes I have ever seen. So let's know how to cook "Smoked fish on a banana leaf".
The Ingredients which We Need
- Banana leaf [ 2 rectangle shape pieces]
- white mustard seeds.
- Mustard oil.
- Salt.
- Turmeric powder.
- Green chili.
- Any kind of small fish. [ Here I use 200 gms of fresh "Sardin Fish". ]
Let's Do The Preparation
- First, take 2 tablespoons of white mustard seeds to blend along with 2 green chilies.
- Make a smooth paste and pour the mixture into a big bowl.
- Now add salt to taste and 1/2 tablespoon of turmeric powder to it. Mix them well.
- Then add all the fresh fish into the bowl and coat all the fish very well by your hand.
- Here is the main step, take 1 piece of banana leaf and coat one side of it with mustard oil.
- Place all the fish on that leaf along with two green chilies and spread 1 tablespoon of mustard oil all over the leaf. [ Picture Below]
Cooking Method
- Take a Shallow Frying pan and turn the flame on medium heat. Place the banana leaf very carefully and gently. Cover the Fryingpan for about 15 minutes.
- After 15 minutes Transfer the fish to the fresh oil-coated Banana leaf and spread 1 tablespoon of mustard oil. Make sure you place the new side of those fishes, not the same side which you have already cook for the last 15 minutes.
- Again place the new leaf on the frying pan and cover for another 15 minutes.
- When you can smell the burning leaf turn the flame off.
