Ilish vapa ( Bengali style)
For Bengali people, Hilsha fish is not only a portion of tasty food but also an emotion. In the rainy season, people wait for the fish. There are different ways to cook this fish. some people cook this along with raw banana some cook this with eggplant. But the authentic Bengali recipe is to cook with mustard seeds. Today we are going to learn " Ilish vapa". It's an easy doing recipe for all of us. we don't need extraordinary spices for this recipe. Let's see how to cook " Ilish vapa" ( Bengali style).

- Cooking time 20 minutes.
Ingredients
- Hilsha fish. ( 500 gms)
- White mustard seed. ( 2 tablespoons)
- Green chilies. ( 4 )
- Thick yogurt. ( 15gms)
- Salt. ( To taste)
- Turmeric powder. (1 tablespoon)
- Mustard oil. ( 2 to 3 tablespoon)
Preparation
Make a smooth paste of white mustard seed add 1/2 tablespoon of salt and 1 tablespoon of turmeric powder.
Then add thick yogurt to it and whisk it till it became lump-free.
Cooking Method
- Take a nonstick pan or container and spread some oil evenly now pour 3 tablespoons of the paste to it. evenly spread all over the pan.
- Now place the Hilsha fish pieces to it.
- Then add the remaining paste top of the fish and place 2 green chilies on top.
- Spread 1 tablespoon of mustard oil top of the fish and cover the pan.
- Cook it on a medium flame for about 10 minutes.
- After 10 minutes uncover the pan and flip the fish pieces. cook for another 10 minutes.
your " Ilish vapa " is ready to be served with hot steam rice.
